You Yangs plants

Plant life in the You Yangs is extremely varied. There are indigenous species as well as plants from other parts of Australia and the world. Some of the non-indigenous plants were introduced intentionally, others most likely were not. I will attempt to photograph as many plants as I can at different times of year and include them here. This will take time, but I have made a start.

For other information and photos taken at the You Yangs please see the relevant pages, YY 2015, YY 2014, YY 2013, YY 2012 and earlier.

Asteraceae family

Cassinia arcuata Drooping Cassinia
Native to south eastern Australia

of spent flowers / fruits / seeds. To the right is a whole plant, back lit and
covered in spent flowers / fruits / seeds.

Chrysanthemoides monilifera Boneseed
Introduced from South Aftica and extremely numerous in the park.

The above photos were taken in July 2012 (mid winter). The left and middle images show a spider that has taken refuge among young leaves. On the right, buds are beginning to grow. Soft white hairs on the leaves and buds rub off easily and leave clothing covered in dots of white fluff.

In flower, Sept 2012 (early spring). With the boneseed in full bloom there are vast areas of bright yellow. It is quite a sight.
