Yellingbo Nature Conservation Reserve
The reserve is about 50 km east of Melbourne. It is managed by Parks Victoria. Access is restricted because of the importance of the reserve to conservation. YNCR is well known as home to three of Victoria's state emblems: Helmeted Honeyeater, Leadbeater's Possum and Common Heath. It also provides valuable habitat for many other wildlife species.
Members of BirdLife Australia visit the reserve once a month to record the bird species that are present.
Volunteers participate in the Helmeted Honeyeater Recovery Program in such activities as supplementary feeding of wild Helmeted Honeyeaters, bird surveys, planting of indigenous plants, or working in the Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater plant nursery.
