Pound Bend Reserve, Warrandyte State Park
The reserve, little more than 20km north-east of Melbourne, is almost surrounded by a large loop of the meandering Yarra River. Wildflowers and birds are plentiful, particularly in springtime.

October 2012
The photos below were taken during a well-attended BirdLife Melbourne outing. Though cool and damp at first, the day progressively cleared to a beautiful afternoon. Walking along the river track, we were constantly accompanied by calling birds.
Mountain Clematis Clematis aristata grew in
a few places beside the track. We also saw Clematis microphilla with feathery fruit. |
A pair of Grey Fantails flew to and from this almost completed nest,
adding finishing touches and trying it for size. The birds built their nest in a sparse Pomaderris tree growing beside the brown Yarra River, which forms the background of the photo. |
