Jingellic on the Murray River, south-east NSW, Dec 2014 - Jan 2015
BirdLife Australia members enjoyed another camp at the usual Jingellic property, this time from 28 Dec 2014 to 4 Jan 2015.
During the camp we spent some time on the property and visited several other places of interest nearby. We also travelled to a number of more distant locations in various directions from the camp. Heartfelt thanks again to the owners of the property for allowing us to stay.

At the camp property, west of the town of Jingellic
Last year the camp area was occupied by numerous cicadas. This year, as far as I know, there were none. Notable among the bird species were the nesting Rainbow Bee-Eaters and White-throated Gerygones. On at least one occasion a White-bellied Sea-Eagle flew over, but we didn't notice the Spotted Harrier that we had seen in the two previous summers.

Thanks to the owners of this property for a wonderful day of exploring. The place was alive with many species of birds and other wildlife. Parts of the property are steep and the views from high on the hills were spectacular. It was hard to capture the scenes adequately in a photo.

A pair of Grey Fantails took it in turns to tend to the young in their nest.
Rufous Whistlers. Male on the left and female on the right.
White-winged Choughs sun baking in the middle of the day. Most of the time while I watched them they were foraging in the shade of a large eucalypt, but spent some minutes lying in the sun before returning to the shade.

Further west along the River Road towards Talmalmo, NSW
Part of the River Road is bordered by a narrow strip of woodland. This area sits between the road and nearby farmland. A walking track provides access.
Above is a view of part of the narrow woodland. The various species of trees and other plants that grow here provide habitat for wildlife. In particular, many birds use this patch of woodland for breeding.
